Antireactive Properties of Glucosamine Sulfate
Article Summary:
Glucosamine is an amino sugar that can be found in the body. It has some protective factors for edema related to dextran, formalin, and carrageenin. Glucosamine has some anti inflammatory effects then on the joints. Glucosamine also provided some protection from various pleurities in the mouse and rat. The potency and toxicity of glucosamine are both low, indicating very low side effects and high tolerance. When compared to the NSAIDs typically used for treatment of arthritis, the glucosamine is better tolerated, has less side effects and is just as effective, if not more at treating the condition.
