Double-Blind Clinical Evaluation of the
Relative Efficacy of Ibuprofen and Glucosamine Sulphate in the Management
of Osteoarthrosis of the Knee in Outpatients.
| Summary: |
Patients
with osteoarthritis of the knee were separated into
two groups and given either 1.5g of glucosamine
sulfate or 1.2g of ibuprofen daily. Neither the
patients nor the researchers were aware of which
group the patient was in, as to eliminate as much
bias as possible. Initially, the ibuprofen group
showed faster decreases in pain, but the patients
taking the glucosamine reported lower rates of pain
over a longer period of time, and eventually reported
less pain than those taking ibuprofen. There was
a general well tolerance to the glucosamine and
side effects were negligible. |
