| Efficacy and Safety of Glucosamine Sulfate
Versus Ibuprofen in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis
| Article
Summary: |
A
study was done in China involving people with osteoarthritis
of the knee to determine the effectiveness of glucosamine
versus ibuprofen. Patients were separated into two
groups and administered either 1500 mg of glucosamine
or 1200 mg of ibuprofen. Patients’ pain were
recorded at 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment and
also 2 weeks after the treatment ended. The mobility
of the knee and swelling of the knee were also recorded
at these times. The patients who received the glucosamine
treatments reported less pain than those taking
ibuprofen, as well as better mobility and less swelling.
Those taking the glucosamine also reported less
adverse side effects than those taking ibuprofen.
The glucosamine is considered an effective treatment
for arthritis, and should be considered an alternative
to NSAIDs and ibuprofen, and also has very few side
effects. |
